Former Police Official Royina Garma and Daughter Arrested in California: DOJ

MANILA, Philippines — Former police official Royina Garma and her daughter, Angelica Garma Vilela, were arrested and are currently in detention in San Francisco, California, the Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Tuesday.

The DOJ's statement followed reports indicating that Garma, who left the Philippines for Washington, D.C. on November 7, 2024, was taken into custody along with her daughter.

According to DOJ spokesperson Mico Clavano, "The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) have verified that both Royina Garma and Angelica Garma Vilela were arrested in San Francisco on the same day, November 7, 2024."

The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation involving the former police official and her family.
