FINDING PURPOSE BEYOND WEALTH AND POWER

The True Measure of Worth

Living with Purpose and Compassion

We Are All Equal in the Eyes of God

If we are all equal in the eyes of God, what is there truly to boast about? Our wealth fades, our status shifts, our appearance withers with time. At our core, we are not measured by possessions or titles but by the eternal truth: we are souls inhabiting one life, fragile yet divine.

And yet, we cannot deny the disparities around us. Some dwell in mansions while others sleep on cold streets. Some wield authority while others endure exploitation. Why such imbalance? Why does life seem to deal blessings to some and burdens to others?

The answer lies not in comparing our lot with another’s but in understanding the deeper meaning of purpose.

The Role of Individual Purpose

Every human being is created with a unique role to play. Imagine the disorder if every person insisted on leading and no one was willing to serve. A symphony requires not only a conductor but also violinists, drummers, and flutists. Remove one, and the harmony collapses.

Ancient Chinese philosophy spoke of the Rectification of Names, which stressed harmony by encouraging people to live according to their roles and responsibilities. Ancient India’s caste system, though often abused, was initially conceived to preserve order and balance, reminding society that not everyone could or should play the same part.

Today, we rightly reject rigid hierarchies that suppress human dignity, yet the underlying truth remains: society flourishes only when each person contributes faithfully to their calling. Whether one teaches, heals, builds, governs, or nurtures, each role carries value, each purpose matters.

The Interconnectedness of Life

No person is truly self-sufficient. To live is to be bound in a web of relationships, a rhythm of giving and receiving. Just as man and woman complement each other, just as birds depend on the trees and the trees on the soil, humanity exists in an endless cycle of reciprocity.

This interconnectedness teaches us balance. When we embrace our place in the whole, we recognize that our actions ripple outward, shaping lives beyond our own. The bread we bake feeds a neighbor; the kindness we show uplifts a stranger; the knowledge we share lights the mind of a child.

To live meaningfully is to give ourselves to this great exchange, not reluctantly, but joyfully, knowing that what we sow into the world comes back to us in ways we may never expect.

Fulfillment in Purpose and Giving

True fulfillment is not reserved for heaven alone. It is possible here and now, if we live with open hearts. Yet when the principle of reciprocity is corrupted, it breeds harm. History gives us examples, figures like Don Corleone in The Godfather, who used generosity as a chain, binding people into cycles of manipulation and fear.

The Bible, however, reveals a purer way: “Give, and you shall receive.” Not as a transaction, but as a spiritual law. Selfless giving becomes a river that replenishes itself. Compassion offered to the suffering often returns as comfort in our darkest hour. Forgiveness extended to others often frees our own hearts from chains of bitterness.

Happiness, then, is not found in abundance of wealth or in the applause of men. It is found in the quiet peace of a heart aligned with love, in the joy of seeing someone’s burden lightened by our hand, in the serenity of knowing we have lived not just for ourselves but for others.

Living as Salt and Light

Christ called His followers to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Salt preserves what is good and gives flavor to what is bland. Light dispels darkness and guides those who have lost their way.

When we live out our purpose, guided by compassion and faith, we too become salt and light. Our small acts—an encouraging word, a patient heart, a selfless deed, become sparks of hope in a weary world. In this way, we glorify God not by grand displays but by everyday faithfulness.

Our ultimate calling is not to compete or to dominate, but to glorify God by faithfully fulfilling the roles entrusted to us. To raise children with love. To serve neighbors with kindness. To labor honestly, to lead justly, to forgive readily. Each role, however humble, can radiate the divine when done in love.

A Call to Action

As we journey through life, let us remember: our worth is not in wealth, beauty, or rank. These are fleeting shadows. Our true worth lies in how we embrace our purpose, serve others, and reflect God’s love.

Let us walk humbly, mindful of our interconnectedness. Let us give generously, without thought of return, trusting that God Himself multiplies every good seed. Let us shine as salt and light in the corners of the world we touch.

For in the end, it is not what we have hoarded but what we have given that will echo into eternity. It is not the crowns we wear, but the lives we lift, that will bear witness to who we truly were.

"It is not enought to have lived. We should be determined to live for something." - Winston Churchill
